Fashion and does it work for Cockapoos

There are arguments for and against fashion for any breed of dog, and Cockapoos are no different.  However, you can’t get away from the endless fashion options available now, with lots across social media channels and in pet shops.  There are lots of options available from coats, jumpers, even hats and scarfs for both male and females.  They can make your Cockapoo look super cute, but does it work?

There are instances when dressing up your Cockapoo is beneficial and let’s face it, its not the end of the world or cruel to dress them up.  But you need to be mindful of your pet and see if they are comfortable and happy with your choices.  

When does fashion work?

If you have a nervous Cockapoo, unusual, but it can happen, a snug fitting jumper, t-shirt or sweatshirt can really help with how they feel.  The pressure of a snug fitting top against them, can often have a calming effect on them and make them feel less anxious and nervous.  It may not work for all, so try it when they are calm, with plenty of treats to hand and see how they respond. 

If the weather is extremely cold outside or perhaps, they have just had a short cut, your Cockapoo may feel a bit chilly, especially on a longer walk.  They would then benefit from a coat or jumper to keep them cosy whilst out. If the weather is wet, it can also keep them dry and help to prevent their under belly becoming as dirty as it could do.  Older dogs and puppies also have more of a tendency to feel the cold so could benefit from a coat.  Just make sure anything you put on your Cockapoo is comfortable and that they are happy to wear it.

We all know Cockapoos are just the cutest and are very photogenic.  We all love a good photo opportunity with our furry best friend and dressing them can create some magical pictures and memories.  Finding a cute outfit, hat or anything that gives you the opportunity to capture that special moment is great to do.  Weddings, birthdays, family celebrations, we all want our bundles of fun involved.  Only dress them up when your Cockapoo is calm and happy to oblige – then you will make sure you get that perfect picture.

Unfortunately, all our Cockapoos could end up with an illness, skin problem or just require an operation and the last thing we want is them licking a wound and causing more problems.  This is a beneficial time to use clothing to prevent them interfering with their healing.  You could use a full overall designed for dogs or a t-shirt to cover the parts you want to keep them away from.  Check that they are happy and that it won’t cause them more distress and worth checking with your vet. 

When doesn’t fashion work?

They first key thing to make sure is that whatever clothing you put on your Cockapoo fits them.  You don’t want it to be too tight and cause irritation and prevent their movement or be too big which again can cause discomfort and be a tripping hazard. 

If dressing up your Cockapoo is for a special occasion, check that the outfit isn’t going to restrict them moving around or stopping them from seeing properly.  Some novelty outfits can be heavy, and this could be very uncomfortable and distressing for them, or even make them overheat.  Be mindful that they must feel happy to wear your choice of outfit.

Overall, Cockapoos can be chilled when being dressed in the latest doggy fashion and it should be fun just as long as they are happy!
